31.05.03 11:40   President Vladimir Putin stated during the Russia-EU summit in St. Petersburg that Russia is extremely interested in solving the problem of drug trafficking from Afghanistan.

An explosive and multi-fold increase in the trafficking of narcotics through Russia into Europe from Afghanistan, the president noted. Energetic efforts in the struggle against drug trafficking are being taken by the United Nations, but this is just not enough.
According to the President of the European Commission, Romano Prodi, this problem also makes the Kaliningrad issue difficult.
President Putin suggested that the ministries of foreign affairs and other European bodies be instructed to design a plan against drug trafficking.
